Demand Burke County DSS to Facilitate Sibling Visitation for Children in Foster Care

The Issue

Amiris Bristol My name is a testament to the pain and longing that many siblings separated by the foster care system experience. I have not seen my siblings in four years, missing out on their growth and them missing mine is devastating . We have done nothing wrong, yet we are being punished by being kept apart. The Department of Social Services (DSS) in Burke County has failed us, not making any effort to keep us connected despite their mandate.

The American Academy of Pediatrics states that maintaining connections with siblings can provide emotional support for children in foster care. Yet, this basic right is being denied to us by the very institution meant to protect our interests - Burke County DSS.

I reached out proactively, hoping for a positive response but was met with deceit instead. They promised visitations which never materialized, causing further emotional distress.

This petition seeks justice not just for me and my siblings but also for all other children who are victims of such institutional negligence. It's time we demand better from Burke County DSS; it's time they fulfill their responsibilities towards these vulnerable children.

Please sign this petition and help reunite me with my siblings while setting a precedent that will benefit countless others like us who yearn for sibling connection amidst the chaos of foster care life. I am not in foster care. My aunt was my guardian when my siblings were taken and has been since I was about 7. My Family should be able to see each other. DSS CONTINUES TO FAIL US and they should be reprimanded for their actions.
