Mineral Mining For Big Tech, Is causing death and deforestation in Congo. 

In Congo there is unregulated mining of not only Cobalt, and lithium that power our batteries iPhones, and technology, but also cassiterite (tin ore), gold, wolframite (a source of tungsten) and more that create a profit for markets in Europe, Asia, & North America. Mining companies like Huayou Cobalt​, Glencore and  Umicore  all mine minerals from Congo. 

Home of the second largest rainforest in the world, Congo rainforest provides sustenance, and housing to animals and communities there.

What is this unregulated mining harmful? 

Congo mining profits the most violently armed rebel groups  in Congo who rape and extort Congolese citizens, including children, forcing them to mine.

Artisanal and industrial mining release chemicals polluting the Congo rivers, and destroy trees replaced by buildings and roads.

Demand consistent public audits from Apple, Google, Tesla, Dell, HP and Microsoft of direct mineral sourcing, miner ethics/ages, and environmental standards of sourcing, verified by a reputable human rights witness living in Congo. Film maker  Pappy Orion  who is currently documenting the condition of communities in Congo, has agreed to be a witness. 

Each company has a sustainability commitments on their website, assessments from 2022, and a code of conduct they claim to follow. We must hold them accountable of their commitments. 

Do not be fooled by the age of articles for Congo Online. This crisis is still ongoing but has not been consistently covered enough by news outlets, to get public attention.
