Our beloved family pet, an integral part of our home, passed away a few days ago. This devastating incident is not just our story, but reflects a larger issue that continues to plague the beautiful city of Calipatria, CA. The safety of its citizens and their families—including their pets—is being consistently overlooked. I know I am not alone when it comes to this issue as many citizens of Calipatria have made me aware of these same concerns. 

According to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, California holds some of the highest numbers for traffic-related fatalities across the country (source: National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). Given the severity of this issue, it is paramount that our voices are heard now more than ever as we appeal for better safety measures in our beloved city.

We call upon the municipal authorities of Calipatria, CA to seriously address this concern. Measures such as stricter speed limits; improved roadway lighting; additional stop signs, speed bumps, and crosswalks; greater law enforcement presence; and speed radar signs are all practical options that could dramatically enhance the safety of our city streets.

Loss such as we have experienced should not be common or expected. The safety and well-being of all of Calipatria's residents must always be our first priority.
