Demand BBC - stop forcing users who simply accessed BBC to pay for a subscription

The Issue

On June 26, 2025; the British Broadcasting Cooperation (BBC) decides to make their app and website, which includes all their news channels:

BBC One
BBC Two
BBC Three
BBC Four

a paywall for articles clicked on search engines or from BBC's search feature and the website itself regardless of if customers are signed in or not. I am a resident of USA who uses BBC and while I was simply reading an article about flights to and from Ethiopia being canceled, as I was about to travel there, I was interrupted by a message putting a subscription saying "Subscribe to BBC to continue" which cannot be ignored. While this was optional earlier which was only for the country where BBC is from (United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland) this restriction has later on scheduled to have became fully required worldwide on January 26, 2026; where all features, including both articles and news are restricted unless you pay. This is an unprecedented issue all over BBC as I speak.

Forcing paywalls causes people to lose money when they simply access a BBC article, and I do not want to be paid for a subscription to acces any feature. I have to admit that BBC has to start prioritizing it's user experience over it's money. Here on this petition, I am not pressuring BBC so that it loses money, but I don't want it to ruin anyone like me.

I urge BBC to reconsider their update, and to U-turn on this update, just like how they are U-turning on digital ID in the UK.

To stay updated on this developing situation, join me ]as I continue to keep you updated on this developing situation. I thank you for your cooperation and participation. By signing, you can also urge BBC to do the same as what I said here. :)
