Demand an Investigation into the Murder of Brett in Spain by the Guardia Civil
The Issue
On July 21, 2024, in Spain, our son, Brett, was mysteriously murdered. The Guardia Civil initially dismissed the cause of his death as a pulmonary embolism. However, with his belongings missing and a significant wound to his head, this explanation was insufficient and illogical. Despite reopening the case due to these suspicious circumstances, we have received no word from Spanish authorities regarding any progress or the pursuit of justice for Brett.
In Spain, crimes involving non-residents are often less prioritized, leading to inadequate resolution for the victims and their families. According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), in 2017, the intentional homicide cases resolved, where victims were non-residents in Spain, stood at only 41%. This is painfully lower than when victims are residents. This disparity shows a clear lack of justice for non-residents.
Brett was not just a non-resident; he was a beloved son whose life was brutally stripped away. We, his family, are seeking answers and demand a proper investigation be undertaken into his murder. We want to ensure no other families suffer the way we have, by having to push for investigations that should be routine for such serious crimes.
Let Brett's case not be forgotten, swept under the rug because he was a non-resident. Let his story be a call for justice and a reminder that every life, resident or not, deserves dignity and fair treatment in the wake of a crime. Demand the Guardia Civil to hold a thorough investigation into Brett's murder.
Please sign this petition to help us pressure the Spanish authorities into giving Brett and our family the justice we deserve.
