UPDATE: Justice For Nex Benedict

If you follow the news at all, you may have already seen that the Oklahoma State Medical Examiner's Office has released a report claiming that Nex Benedict's death was due to suicide:
Here's the thing:
Oklahoma is one of the most hostile states to LGBTQ+ people in the US. The Secretary of Education in the state is an extremist who has seated a virulently anti-LGBTQ+ social media personality on a committee tasked with vetting books for the school system.
It is abundantly clear that at every level, there is absolutely no reason to believe that the people conducting the investigation into Nex's death are doing so in good faith or that they can be trusted.
We MUST have an independent, transparent investigation by the FBI and the Department of Justice, and it must happen right away. Everything going on in the investigation so far looks exactly like a coverup- and while that isn't proven, it is undeniable that it has all the appearances of one, and it is also undeniable that the authorities in charge of the investigation at the moment have demonstrated clear and unremitting hostility to LGBTQ+ people and rights.

Look for an update soon with a draft letter to the United States Attorney General and the head of the FBI. I want to make sure everyone who has signed the petition has an opportunity to review the letter before it's sent.
