Demand an Immediate Cease-Fire in Gaza. Divert Aid and Recognize the State of Palestine.
The Issue
Today, the United States vetoed a UN resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. The United States was the only country to vote against the resolution out of 15 global leaders.
What is happening in Gaza is nothing short of U.S.-sponsored genocide. Indeed, it is just one permutation of a decades-long program of U.S. devastation in the Middle East which has valued oil extraction and regional domination over the lives and communities of our brothers and sisters on the other side of the world. Those of us who lived through 9/11 understand that violence and instability only beget more violence and instability.
Israel has been illegally occupying, destroying, and displacing the Palestinian community for more than 50 years. It is the height of a political paradox to support Israel and Ukraine with our tax dollars at the same time.
It seems that the United States government does not see that it is in its best interests to support peace in the Middle East. Namely, at this moment, the Biden-Harris Administration is evidently convinced that it is more beholden to specific political allies, whether that may be for political, economic, or security reasons, rather than the overwhelming majority of constituents that support a cease-fire.
The road to peace will not be easy, but the Biden-Harris administration has the power to stop bankrolling and politically supporting this genocide immediately.
As a concerned, peace-loving citizen, I cannot in good conscience vote for an administration that is eradicating an entire group of people under the Bush-Era pretense of "terrorism".
We urge our democratic candidates and all political leaders to use their influence and demand an immediate ceasefire in Israel. Additionally, we demand that at least half of U.S. Aid to Israel —for the next twenty years— be diverted to rebuilding Gaza and supporting the formation of an autonomous and democratically elected Palestinian government that is recognized by the United States and the rest of the international community as the State of Palestine.
Only then can we confidently cast our votes knowing that they stand with us on this critical issue.
Please sign this petition to show our elected leaders (who are up for re-election) that you cannot support a presidential candidate who doesn't take fast action to enact a cease-fire in Gaza, divert funds to rebuild Gaza, and recognize the State of Palestine as a sovereign nation.
