No One Said These Fights Would be Easy ...

And good news from NYC Audubon:     Lights Out bills  Int. 274 & Int. 271 passed this week, unanimously by New York City Council. These bills will require that non-essential outdoor lighting be turned off between the hours of 11 pm and 6 am during migration times. This will effect City buildings owned or leased by the City. Bird Collisions with buildings result in over 200,000 bird fatalities each year, passage of these two bills will have a major impact. Read more from NYC Audubon.

Finally, while we are crushed to hear of the retirement of Dick Gottfried from the New York State Assembly, we have good news on the horizon. A fierce advocate for reasonable and fair development has entered the race to fill his seat, Layla Law-Gisiko; she has been on the front lines as Chair of the Land Use Committee for CB5 which represents Midtown. The New York State Assembly/Senate Can and Must close them to protect all NY neighborhoods and parks. Soaring mechanical spaces do nothing but push penthouses into the sky and cast more shadows into our parks.
