URGENT CALLS - STOP SUPERTALLS! CLOSE DEVELOPER LOOPHOLES!

Save Central Park NYC
May 18, 2021

Do you want to stop “SUPERTALLS” from going up in your neighborhoods?

A few hours ago we learned that the State Senate held their last Housing Committee meeting of the session.  We can still close the voids loophole if Chair Kavanagh brings the bill to the Rules Committee.

Please, we need you to call Senator Kavanagh and Assemblymember Cymbrowitz now!

Please call your own Assemblymember and Senator too, and urge them to co-sponsor this legislation!

State Assemblymember Steven Cymbrowitz 518-455-5214

Ask them to move Senate Bill S2016 and Assembly Bill A2128 out of committee before the end of this legislative session ends in June.

These bills will close certain loopholes developers have been abusing in order to build "supertall" buildings in your neighborhoods.

Suggested brief message:
I am calling to ask that you move Senate bill S2016 (Assembly bill A2128) out of committee and onto the floor for a vote this session. This bill will close loopholes that developers have been abusing and hold them accountable to the intent of the underlying zoning law.

*Leaving a message with their Legislative Director is more effective than leaving it with the receptionist.*

About these bills:
You may think a 15-story building going up in your neighborhood won’t be so bad. But what is the height of a floor? Ten feet? Twenty feet? What if the building includes multiple mechanical voids? Each void (not counted in FAR) can add 25 feet in residential areas and a developer can add more as long as they are separated by 75 feet. Some developers have even designed stilts inside the building’s core — all this to jack up the height of the upper floors so they will command higher and higher prices.

These two bills will limit such “no count” spaces and hold developers accountable to the intent of the underlying zoning.

We need your support! Quantity of calls counts!
