The State Assembly is holding a PUBLIC HEARING about raising the FAR (Floor Area Ratio) cap, allowing for even taller buildings!
REBNY (Real Estate Board of NY) wants us to believe this is necessary to solve the affordable housing crisis! This is absurd! Affordable housing doesn't benefit from having the FAR height cap raised. The only benefit from raising FAR is to raise the profits of Big Realtors. Large buildings, and towers especially, are expensive to build and are not good for affordable housing!

Instead of lifting the FAR cap, the state should work on passing Assembly Member Linda Rosenthal's & Senator Robert Jackson's bill A5026/S3820 which amends the State’s Multiple Dwelling Law. This bill will remove three egregious loopholes which developers currently exploit. None of these are counted towards FAR:
- excessive mechanical void spaces
- high floor to ceiling heights
- unenclosed spaces (voids with no walls)
Lets stop developers from using subversive means to build excessively tall buildings that do not serve our communities.
