As a local resident and faithful supporter of our community libraries, I have grown increasingly concerned with the challenges facing Fairhope Library. This venerable institution has recently lost funding following the controversy over two particular books, a development that reeks of censorship. In democratic societies, the freedom to access information should be guarded, not threatened by whimsical funding cuts based on content disputes.

Public libraries like the Fairhope Library serve a critical function in our society. They provide a myriad of resources for learners of all ages, support literacy and education, and promote an informed and engaged community. 

We call upon the Alabama Public Library System to uphold the tenets of freedom, dialogue, and diversity by restoring the funding to Fairhope Library.
