Im a student who heavily relies on the metro to commute to school. Prices for namma metro fares have always been a point of strain for me and many students alike who, despite the importance of education, find it difficult to fund this regularly necessary commute; quite simply, the current fare is too high.

Unfortunately, this is not an issue unique to me. As per a survey conducted by the Global Metro Monitor (2019), nearly 40% of students have difficulty in affording public transport fares. This presents a major obstacle to their access to education and can contribute to increased drop-out rates. Hence, the high fare clearly goes beyond just being a transportation problem; it touches upon bigger social issues.

Currently, there isn't a universal discount available for students, and this can heavily impact their monthly expenditure. The burden of such high-cost commuting is too much to bear for students, who typically do not have a high disposable income.

The provision of student passes would help to alleviate this issue. By offering these passes at a considerable discount, not only would this facilitate more accessible education, but this initiative would demonstrate a commitment to supporting students in their academic journeys.
