I am writing to draw attention to a pressing issue that deeply affects not only me but many others within our community. For the past ten months, I have suffered in the aftermath of a serious crime, including an attempted robbery. My plight has been compounded by the mishandling of my case by the Avon & Somerset Police, who misfiled crucial evidence, delaying the investigation by a staggering eight months. During this time, I have consistently been met with indifference and neglect, not only by the police but also by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) and the Police & Crime Commissioner (PCC), despite my repeated complaints.

The voicemails and communications I received were not only dismissive but also disrespectful, highlighting a broader issue of negligence and lack of accountability. This is not an isolated incident but symptomatic of systemic failures within the very institutions meant to protect us. Residents of Avon & Somerset deserve a police force that is competent, reliable, and accountable.

We must demand a thorough public inquiry into the widespread inefficiencies and failures of the Avon & Somerset Police. It's essential to overhaul the IOPC, which has demonstrated weak oversight and failed to serve the interests of victims. Furthermore, we need to call for the replacement or the complete reform of the Avon & Somerset Police & Crime Commissioner, who must be held accountable for neglecting their responsibilities.

These steps are critical in ensuring that such failures do not happen again, and to restore trust in our local police and oversight bodies. Avon & Somerset, and indeed all communities, deserve better.
