In Nicholasville, Kentucky, residents are grappling with a sharp and unexpected rise in their electricity bills, courtesy of the City of Nicholasville Utilities. For many of us who live here, these escalating charges are more than just an inconvenience; they are a burden, threatening the financial stability of our families.

Over the past three months, electricity rates have doubled or even tripled for numerous households. This drastic increase is unsustainable and unfair. It's causing immense distress as families struggle to decide between basic needs such as groceries and keeping the lights on. Many of our community members are on fixed incomes or have jobs that don't allow for sudden increases in living expenses, magnifying the impact of these rate hikes.

The justification for such steep increases remains unclear, and the lack of transparency from the City of Nicholasville Utilities adds to the frustration. In a time when families are already managing economic challenges, this surge in energy costs is unacceptable.

We are calling on the Nicholasville city officials to reevaluate the rate structures and provide a detailed explanation for the recent changes. We urge them to consider the financial impact on the community and implement a rate reduction, ensuring fair and reasonable pricing for all residents.

We also propose the establishment of a citizens’ advisory board to oversee utility pricing decisions and enhance transparency in the decision-making process, ensuring voices from every corner of the community are heard and respected.
