Demand a New, Functional Contributor Interface and Real Support on Musixmatch
The Issue
Musixmatch thrives on its community of lyric contributors—yet those very contributors face endless frustration with outdated, buggy tools, broken support, and a confusing system that blocks dedicated users from improving lyrics. We call on Musixmatch to: build a modern, reliable interface designed for contributors; provide real, accessible support from actual humans; improve transparency around curator requirements; allow all committed users to help fix lyrics; and open community channels to everyone. If you want a better, fairer Musixmatch, sign and share this petition!
My story
# Title: Musixmatch Desperately Needs to Fix Its Broken Systems and Listen to Its Community
Hey everyone,
I wanted to share my ongoing (and honestly, very frustrating) experience with Musixmatch—hoping some of you can relate, vent, and maybe help push for some real improvements.
## The Musixmatch Illusion: Crowd-Based but Powerless
Musixmatch built its entire platform on the idea of regular people uploading and syncing lyrics. Sounds awesome, right? In reality, the tools you get for this are barebones, buggy, and barely usable. It doesn’t matter whether I try on desktop, Android, or iOS—almost nothing works reliably.
## The Curator’s Maze: Badges, Broken Tests, and Total Silence
- In May 2022, I graduated from the Musixmatch Academy. I thought that meant I could try to take the curator's test—nope! The app suddenly demanded more badges before I could even access the test.
- Oddly, the *desktop app* didn’t mention these badge requirements at all. Inconsistent communication everywhere.
- I did the old test multiple times. No results. No emails. No “Sorry, you didn’t make it.” The function just silently disappeared after a while—turns out, they claimed they weren’t looking for curators anymore because there were “too many.”
- Suddenly, a few months later, there’s a new Academy site and a new curator’s test link… except it doesn’t work.
## The Bug-Ridden New Test: No Music, Constant Errors
Just recently, I tried the new test and scored 67/100—under the required 80. What's ridiculous is that I reached that score without actually listening to the music, because the test platform is so buggy. Even after following their troubleshooting guides, using Chrome, and having Spotify Premium, the sync feature was basically non-functional. I kept switching devices on Spotify just to get anything to play, and even that barely worked.
Editing tasks were a nightmare—undoing actions would send the music back to the wrong timestamp, which trashed my progress. Now, I have to wait another four days to even try again—hoping the bugs won’t sabotage me a second time.
## Terrible Interface, No Support
- Even the most basic task—transcribing—is needlessly complicated and unreliable, even though it’s just plain text.
- Syncing features are full of glitches.
- Support is practically non-existent. There’s no actual contact information, just a “support form” that funnels you to generic help articles. I’ve tried to report these issues, but nothing gets resolved.
- Editing lyrics is a dead end: If someone with a higher role has edited a lyric, you can’t touch it. That’s the *only* reason I want to become a curator, since I keep reporting the same errors repeatedly and nothing changes.
- To top it all off, they slap a “verified by curator or specialist” badge on lyrics that are flat-out wrong.
## The Slack Community: Unreachable
And for years, it’s been impossible for me to join their Slack, which would supposedly be a place to actually participate or get help.
## A Call for Change
I’m sharing my story here because I know I’m not alone. If Musixmatch really values its community, it needs to:
- Offer real, accessible support (with actual humans!).
- Fix bugs across their platform—especially in syncing and test-taking.
- Improve transparency about requirements and pathways to being a curator.
- Let committed users actually *edit* and fix lyrics, regardless of “role.”
- Make the community channels (like Slack) accessible to all contributors.
If you’ve had similar struggles or have your own story, please share below. Let’s bring some visibility to these issues and push Musixmatch to listen to the people who make their platform possible.
*Thanks for reading. Let’s make some noise and demand better!*
