Demand a Moratorium on New Construction Approvals in Attleboro MA

The Issue

As a long-time resident of the ever-growing City of Attleboro, MA I have witnessed first-hand the strain our city's rampant growth is having on our resources, stretching them beyond sustainability. Therefore, I implore our Mayor and City Council to require an immediate halt on the approval of any new construction in Attleboro until an all-encompassing study is conducted.

To further this cause, we need transparency. We petition the Planning Board to provide a detailed report of all approved, but not yet completed or leased apartments, single and multi-family dwellings. This report should include data on the number of units and number of bedrooms per unit to help us anticipate the number of additional persons potentially moving into our city.

Moreover, realizing that our city resources are already strained, implications of such expansion should also be understood clearly. Studies assessing the increasing demand for water and the escalating traffic are indispensable for sustainable growth.

The Jewel, a recently completed apartment in downtown has 43 units, studios to two bedrooms. Each with a washing machine.  Thats probably close to 75 more people, showering, bathing and doing laundry.  Parking is not mentioned, and a review of google maps does not show any clear parking lot associated with this building.

To safeguard our resources and maintain our quality of life, we request the City Council to address these concerns seriously.

Please join us in demanding a detailed study before further approving any new construction, to ensure Attleboro stays a sustainable and livable environment for all inhabitants. Sign this petition now, and let's make our voices heard.
