Huge updates:

We need all hands on deck.

  1. If you haven’t seen yet, there are now TWO hyperscale data center proposals in the works. Fort Meade and now the second being for Lakeland.
  2. DeSantis signed data center bill SB484 but it is insufficient. For example, it got rid of a 5 mile radius rule that was in the original version of the bill, as well as allows developers to require city commissioners to sign NDAs. This is not transparency in the slightest.
  3. Lakeland City Commissioner's tried sowing confusion to quiet public outlash by posting on official city pages and even ran A PAID AD ON SOCIAL MEDIA that they would not take comment about the data center and weren’t covering it in their latest meeting. Nowhere in their posts did they reiterate that public comment can still take place at the end of meetings.
  4. Stonebridge withdrew their next meeting but did NOT withdraw the proposal. I also suspect this to be a tactic to quiet the public.

All of this is alarming and points to the relentlessness that these developers and city officials have regarding pushing these data centers on our communities. We must get vocal. Sign and share petitions. Plan on showing up to city commission meetings. Email officials. POST ABOUT IT ON SOCIAL MEDIA.

We all have to lock in and do some homework now before it’s too late.
