Demand a Local Government Bi-election and Inclusion of New candidates Berry Islands
The Issue
I, along with other community members of the Berry Islands, am raising this pressing concern because of a recent development that has left much of our community disenfranchised. Only 3 persons were able to submit their nominations due to the sudden and unexpected announcement of the election. The vital information was issued to the community a mere 2 hours before the closing of the administrative office and a single day before the declaration of the writs of election. The hurried nature of these events left many local individuals, qualified and eager to participate in our local governance, unable to register in time.
This is not just an issue of missed opportunities; it's a matter of fundamental democratic rights. The hasty closure of the registry restricts the participation of many prospective leaders who would have otherwise stepped up to run for local government. We are deprived of the diversity and dynamism that a larger candidate pool would bring.
Therefore, we call for a local government bi-election in the Berry Islands and demand that the administration provide ample time for new and transferred voters to register. Respecting the democratic process implies prioritizing the inclusivity over haste. It implies giving a fair chance to everyone interested in serving our communities through local government roles.
