As a diligent law-abiding citizen and tax payer, I am deeply upset by the recent decision of the Supreme Court to allow an electoral branch to receive full immunity from actions and accountability. This appears to significantly undermine the Checks and Balances system, a crucial foundation of our Constitution.

In a democratic society, every decision-making branch must be held accountable for its actions. Truth and transparency are fundamental in a society that champions freedom and democratic values. Bestowing immunity on such a powerful institution lessens these values, and dampens faith and trust in our democracy.

Interestingly, the system of Checks and Balances is designed precisely to prevent such unchecked power. As per the National Conference of State Legislatures, our founding fathers implemented the Checks and Balances system specifically to prevent any one branch of government from becoming too powerful (NCSL, 2019).

It is on this backdrop that I, and the signers of this petition, believe that an in-depth investigation is in order. A thorough review will ensure that the legality of this decision is above board and falls within the confines of the Constitution. Put us at ease and reaffirm our faith in the system.
