The Financial Services Act 2019 (Part 14) formally establishes a Financial Services Ombudsman. Yet, despite it being four years since the enactment of this legislation, we still lack the creation and implementation of this critical role. A Financial Services Ombudsman would provide residents of Gibraltar the assistance needed for disputes with financial services, serving as an independent body to mediate these issues at no cost or a nominal fee.
This petition seeks to address this gap and demand the swift establishment of a Financial Services Ombudsman. Such an initiative would provide a vital service to the community, ensuring that everyone in Gibraltar can access fair and equitable resolutions to financial disputes.
In the UK and across Europe, financial ombudsmen have proven their worth. They have built reputations for thoroughness and fairness, restoring faith in financial services by making them more accountable to the public.
