

With the Annual Minimum Wage being supported to increase by 5% to keep wages in line with inflation, the growth is different for workers in Feminised Industries like Pathology. ACTU are supporting PCA's calls for a 9% Wage increase for Sectors like Pathology, where females are needing more wage growth to combat the equality gap and financial control making them more likely to become a victim to Domestic Violence.
We need to do better to provide a stable and valuable wage to Healthcare Workers. This is the most common "Trade" taken on by Females in Australia yet paid considerably less to Physical Trades in Contruction.
Healthcare is as vital as Construction, if we do not have skilled staff to put in the brand-new buildings, the buildings will no longer have a need to be built. In a well-functioning Society, the value of these roles needs to be equally valued.
The fact that Private Pathology Workers are affected by the Minimum Wage growth when their Employers have earnt more money than sector during Covid is telling enough about the value Corporations place in their skilled staff and this culture needs to change.
We were going to stop these Petition at 1500 signatures, yet feel it is important to keep the spotlight on the People in Pathology until we can see a real commitment to retaining the skilled staff in this sector and a responsible level of services from the Pathology Providers who receive Commonwealth Funds.
