Families and individuals in Dungarvan and surrounding districts should have access to a public swimming pool. 

This petition calls on Waterford City and County Council's senior management to begin the work of making this vision a reality. 

There is a very clear and consistent demand from the public for a swimming pool. The Council's own feasibility study concluded that Dungarvan could and should have a public swimming pool. Numerous local councillors have expressed their support for a public swimming pool. 

Its no longer good enough for council management to drag their feet on this. 

Other similarly sized towns have a public swimming pool., and Dungarvan is an outlier. Parents are forced to drive their kids significant distances to access a public pool. 

This amenity would be open to the public and also cater to the many schools, clubs and activity groups in the area. 

Many local authorities across the state provide community-oriented public swimming pools. In most cases these facilities are run to an exceptionally high standard and are self-supporting. 

The time to begin developing a public swimming pool is now.
