Defund the Australian (Hamas?) Broadcasting Corporation
The issue
Watching the news on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) has become increasingly distressing for many Australians. Since October 7, 2023, there has been a notable shift in the ABC’s reporting style, which feels more akin to propaganda from terrorists than balanced journalism. Much of what is aired daily resembles the unverified narratives from the Palestinian terrorist organization, Hamas, without thorough fact-checking or the provision of a balanced viewpoint. So much so, that the ABC is often referred to as the Hamas Broadcasting Corporation.
Like Australia, Israel is founded on a true democracy with open and free media, and all opinions can be found and analysed, whatever side you might like to take. Unlike Australia and Israel, Hamas only presents one side - that of a murderous terrorist organisation. And this is the source the ABC has been reporting all day long for the last few years, without a hint of balance or a single question that Hamas might not be telling the truth.
This perceived shift raises significant concerns about ABC’s role and responsibility as the national broadcaster. Australians rely on the ABC for impartial and trustworthy news, reflecting the diverse perspectives and values of our population. However, the current coverage heavily leaning towards a particular narrative presents a troubling bias that many Australians find unrepresentative and misleading.
In recent days, the ABC has also announced that Grace Tame will host a new show and podcast. Grace is an active participant and supporter of Palestinian terrorism, and has chanted publicly for Intifada, a call for violence and murder on a global scale.
Public funds should be allocated to institutions that serve the interests of our nation, promoting fair and balanced reporting rather than acting as a mouthpiece for extremist propaganda. By defunding the ABC, we can ensure these funds are redirected towards more responsible and ethical media outlets that value integrity and impartiality in their reporting.
