Defund Chicago Mayor Johnson's Security Detail

Defund Chicago Mayor Johnson's Security Detail
The Issue
In recent years, Chicago has seen a concerning rise in violent crime, leaving many of its residents feeling unsafe and vulnerable. Yet, amid this growing threat, Mayor Brandon Johnson and the city council have taken actions that effectively defund, dismantle, and demoralize our police force. This decision has left the residents of Chicago exposed to crime and violence, without the assurance of adequate protection by law enforcement.
This issue is not just a matter of public safety; it's a matter of fairness and equity in resource allocation. While ordinary citizens face the brunt of these decisions, Mayor Johnson continues to enjoy a sizable security detail, reportedly consisting of 65 to 150 police officers, a privilege not afforded to the general public he was elected to serve.
Our demand is clear and just. We call upon Mayor Johnson and the city council to take immediate action to properly fund and train our police officers to ensure the safety and security of all Chicago residents. Failing this, we insist on the defunding of his personal security detail by 75%. The resources saved from this reduction should then be redirected towards revamping and strengthening community policing efforts.
It is imperative that leadership reflects integrity and prioritizes the safety of its entire community over personal comfort. As citizens of Chicago, we deserve a city where safety is guaranteed not by privilege, but by proper governance and resource management.
Join us in petitioning for a fairer, safer Chicago by signing this petition. Together, we can urge Mayor Johnson to act responsibly and ensure safety and justice for everyone in our city.
