The Issue

In Hawaii, our rights to keep and bear arms are under attack. As a law-abiding citizen, I see laws being pushed under the guise of public safety that do little to protect us and instead strip us of our civil liberties. These laws, like the proposed Senate Bill #308 and #401 and Hawaii Revised Statutes 134-8, bans peaceful citizens from owning standard capacity magazines, short barrel shotguns, rifles, and suppressors, unfairly hinder our right to self-defense while criminals remain unaffected as they disregard the laws entirely, continuing to engage in illegal activities with impunity.

The right to bear arms is enshrined in our Constitution and is a fundamental aspect of our civil freedoms. The people of Hawaii, like those across our nation, deserve to exercise their Second Amendment rights without unwarranted restrictions. Laws targeting specific firearms and accessories, particularly those used for lawful purposes, fail to address crime effectively. Instead, these regulations punish responsible gun owners and compromise our ability to protect ourselves and our loved ones.

Statistics demonstrate that stricter gun laws do not correlate with reduced crime rates. In fact, many regions with such laws see an increase in illegal firearm use. We ought to focus on measures that truly enhance public safety, such as improving mental health services, optimizing law enforcement resources, and enforcing existing laws more stringently against actual offenders.

This petition exists to oppose any new firearm restrictions introduced in Hawaii and to call for the repeal of existing laws, including Hawaii Revised Statutes §134-8, that ban standard-capacity magazines, suppressors, short-barreled firearms, and other commonly owned arms used for lawful self-defense.

We urge Hawaii’s legislators to reject further infringements on the Second Amendment and to restore the rights of law-abiding citizens. Let us stand together to defend our civil liberties and ensure that Hawaii remains a state where freedom and security coexist. Please sign this petition to show your support for the constitutional rights guaranteed to the people and for the preservation of responsible self-defense.
