Ithaca - Bait -to- kill site in Six Mile Creek was removed 2-12-22

Thank you to everyone who has supported this petition. I have wonderful news to share. The City and Town have decided to not return or use this site anymore. The opposition worked to get them to reconsider and remove this site.. 

I am very grateful to be able to share this great good news and am flooded with feelings of relief and gratitude that so many joined in to help oppose this unethical and violent way of managing deer. The sad reality is that this program will still be carried out at eight other sites here in the Town of Ithaca and even worse all across the country in many communities. 

My hope is that opposition to this kind of program carried out anywhere will be opposed with creative non-lethal alternative options being explored, tested and implemented. It is a long difficult struggle to find more compassionate and respectful ways to live, tolerate and interact with our wildlife neighbors whose world we have encroached upon so much they often are forced into being more visible than some people can accept. Their family lives and feelings are as real as our own and to think less of them is to lose the empathy and regard they deserve. 

This is a happy local success story and restores some faith that sometimes a bad decision made by leaders can be reversed with enough voices speaking up to oppose.
