The Issue
Vote for the Decriminalization of Sex Work in Switzerland
We stand at a pivotal moment in our nation’s history, where we have the opportunity to make a profound impact on the lives of many by voting for the decriminalization of sex work in Switzerland. This is not just a matter of justice for sex workers, but a step towards a more equitable and safe society for all.
It's a vote for 'my body, my choice'.
All consenting adults should have the right to freely choose what to do with their bodies, and how to explore their sexuality and pleasure.
Additionally, everyone has the right to work in a safe environment, to dignity, and to earn an income. The current legal status of sex work is something we are grateful for, and it is definitely preferably to it being illegal, but it comes with its own problems. To stop stigmatisation, and the shaming of sex, pleasure, and our bodies, sex work needs to be decriminalised and recognised as a profession, and an essential and necessary service for people to live the lives of their choosing, and to experience and explore themselves and other consenting adults without limiting and unnecessary controls. We need access to training, and knowledge of rescources availble to us, just as any other profession has.
Why Decriminalization Matters:
1. Protection of Human Rights:
Decriminalizing sex work ensures that sex workers can live and work
without fear of legal repercussions, allowing them to report abuses and
seek justice. This is a fundamental human right that should be afforded
to all individuals, regardless of their profession.
2. Public Health and Safety:
By decriminalizing sex work, we can implement health and safety
regulations that protect not only sex workers but also the broader community. This includes regular health check-ups and access to
medical services, which help prevent the spread of sexually transmitted
infections (STIs).
3. Economic Stability:
Decriminalization allows sex workers to contribute to the economy
openly, paying taxes and participating in social security systems. This
benefits everyone by increasing public revenue and ensuring that all
workers have access to social benefits like pensions and unemployment insurance.
4. Reduction in Crime:
Bringing sex work out of the shadows reduces the power of criminal
networks that exploit vulnerable individuals. Law enforcement can then
focus on serious crimes such as human trafficking, making our communities safer for everyone. Many sex workers allow themselves to be put in unasfe situations because they are unaware of their rights, or because they fear punishment in various form, which aren't easy to untangle because every canton has different regulations which are not readily apparent.
5. Social Justice and Equality:
Decriminalizing sex work helps to reduce stigma and discrimination,
promoting a more inclusive society. It sends a powerful message that we value the dignity and rights of all individuals, regardless of their
profession.
How This Affects Everyone:
Community Safety: Safer working conditions for sex workers mean fewer
instances of violence and exploitation, contributing to overall community safety.
Public Health: Better health regulations and access to medical services for sex workers help prevent the spread of STIs, benefiting public health.
Economic Benefits: Increased tax revenue from a decriminalized industry
can be used to fund public services that benefit everyone.
Social Cohesion: Reducing stigma and promoting equality fosters a more
inclusive and supportive society, where everyone can thrive.
Take Action Now!
We urge you to vote for the decriminalization of sex work in Switzerland. This is a crucial step towards ensuring the safety, health, and dignity of all individuals in our society. Your vote can make a difference. Stand with us in creating a fairer, safer, and more just Switzerland.
