Decrease Import Tax on Computer Chips and Devices

Decrease Import Tax on Computer Chips and Devices
The Issue
The burden of import tax on computer chips and devices has been a major issue in the recent years for a considerable number of individuals, schools and local government agencies around me. As we transition into a digital world, this tax obstructs our ability to access more advanced technology due to our financial constraints. This single import tax hinders our nation's ability to keep up in technological advancements with neighboring countries.
According to a report by Boston Consulting Group (2020), over 65% of jobs will require digital skills by 2025. With the ongoing import tax on computer chips, our ability to meet this demand and prepare for the future is inhibited. Furthermore, the OECD (2018) identifies that such taxes distort market dynamics and impede innovation.
We propose to the government to either remove or decrease the import tax on computer chips and devices. By doing so, we would have more access to advanced technology, enabling us to be on par with our neighbors and be capable citizens of a digital world.
It's time we demand an affordable and attainable digital future.
