Declare "Zero Day" - One Day a Year With No Flights & No Sailing
The Issue
To: United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), International Maritime Organization (IMO)
For 364 days a year, our skies are full and our oceans never sleep. Over 100,000 flights and 50,000 ships move every single day.
We propose the 365th day to be different.
*We call it Zero Day.*
One day a year when:
1. All commercial flights are grounded
2. All commercial ships hold position where they are — engines off
3. Only emergency, medical and rescue movements are allowed
Why?
Because the Earth has never had a day off.
In 2020, when the world paused, the sky cleared. The Himalayas were seen from hundreds of kilometers away. The oceans went quiet and marine life returned to our coasts. Noise pollution dropped by 60%.
Imagine giving the planet that gift intentionally, once a year.
- One day to let the atmosphere heal
- One day to let the oceans go silent for whales and marine life
- One day for humanity to remember we don't have to be moving constantly to exist
This is not about stopping trade or travel. It's about showing we can choose to pause — together.
We already have Earth Hour. Now we need Earth Day that the whole world _feels_.
We, the people signing below, ask the United Nations to declare an annual official Zero Day.
Let the sky be empty. Let the sea be still. Let Earth breathe.
