While certain countries might observe their own National Care Leavers Weeks, there exists no globally recognized day dedicated to acknowledging their resilience, unique needs, and invaluable contributions.

The 11th of December marks a significant date for care leavers worldwide. In 2020, on this day, care leavers from 11 different countries united to directly voice their concerns and aspirations to policymakers. This date symbolizes not just unity but the power of collective voices striving for recognition and change. We propose that this date becomes an annual, globally acknowledged International Care Leavers Day.

Such a day would serve far beyond mere acknowledgment. It would be a beacon of advocacy, raising global awareness about the challenges care leavers face and pushing for systemic changes to better support their integration and success in society. By dedicating this day, we can facilitate the breaking down of stigma and promote a deeper understanding and better opportunities for care leavers worldwide.
