Dear friends

The movement is growing.  It doesn’t feel good to know that we face a climate emergency, but it does feel positive to know that we recognise it and are doing something about it!

Increasing numbers of councils have declared a climate emergency.

In recent times, we have see declarations from

Launceston
Noosa
Darwin
Wollongong
Indigo Shire
UPDATE:
Mornington Peninsula Shire
Lismore

17 councils in NSW, and 32 councils nationwide have declared a climate emergency

The progressive councils involved in the climate emergency declarations are set to form an intra-governmental alliance to push for real action to curb the effects of climate change.  This week they announced plans to form Climate Emergency Australia (CEA).

There is no denying that there is momentum and passion behind this movement.  The community is recognising that change needs to start immediately.

We are continuing to lobby the government and expect to deliver the petition shortly.

In the meantime, can I please ask you to sign and share the petition to Hornsby Council?  Councillor Emma Heyde has been working really hard on the ground getting paper signatures but they would really like more signatures on their online petition before it’s debated in council on September 18.  Let’s try and get Hornsby across the line!

Stay hopeful.
