This election cycle's primary season has left many Democratic voters pondering one very difficult question - why participate in the primary process at all when it was clear from the beginning that it was rigged for Hillary Clinton by the DNC and Debbie Wasserman Schultz? Before the first vote was even cast, Hillary Clinton had amassed over a hundred so-called "superdelegates." Hillary's surrogates and unwavering disciples in corporate media obediently include superdelegates in the delegate counts between Bernie and Hillary despite the fact that they don't actually vote until the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia. In perhaps the most extreme example of superdelegates disenfranchising voters, Bernie lost the delegate count in Wyoming 11-7 despite winning the state with an overwhelming 55% of the vote. This has helped to create the perception that Clinton's candidacy is all but inevitable and that the Sanders campaign is nothing more than a radical insurgency that will be put to rest after this campaign season.
However, the collusion between the DNC and the Clinton campaign extends much further than the rigging of the superdelegate system. The open collusion between the DNC and the Clinton campaign was well underway before the primary season even began. Through the so-called "Hillary Victory Fund", Hillary Clinton has purchased the unwavering loyalty of 33 state Democratic parties. The Clinton campaign has defended this collusion as "fundraising for up and down ticket Democrats", when it's quite clear to anybody with two eyes, two ears and even half a brain that the intent of fundraising for these state Democratic parties is to ensure the Clinton campaign will have a loyal base of collaborators within the DNC who will do everything in their power to ensure the inevitability of her candidacy. In the fine print of the Hillary for Victory Fund, the collusion between her campaign and the DNC is blatant, unrepentant, and obvious. The fine print reads "The first $2,700/$5,000 from an individual/multicandidate committee (“PAC”) will be allocated to Hillary for America, designated for the primary election. The next $33,400/$15,000 from an individual/PAC will be allocated to the Democratic National Committee. Additional amounts from an individual/PAC will be split equally among the Democratic state parties from these states up to $10,000/$5,000 per state party: AK, AR, CO, FL, GA, ID, IN, KY, LA, ME, MA, MI, MN, MS, MO, MT, NV, NH, NC, OH, OK, OR, PA, RI, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, WV, WI, and WY." Through this so-called "joint fundraising committee", Hillary has been able to create the perception that she's concerned about helping fellow Democrats when in reality she's only concerned with ensuring that these Democrats will support her and only her. By indebting these state parties to her campaign, Hillary and the DNC have made certain that they can always hold this fundraising over the heads of these state parties if they even begin to ponder supporting another candidate.
However, the most egregious offenses against the voters of this nation have been committed by none other than Debbie Wasserman Schultz herself, the chair of the DNC. At the begging of March of this year, DWS joined with Republicans to wage a political war on Elizabeth Warren's Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. After the 2008 financial crisis, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau was formed to give consumers protection from many of the fraudulent activities that crashed the economy and to provide a vehicle through which consumers could file complaints against companies engaging in nefarious practices. Debbie Wasserman Schultz is now cosponsoring H.R. 4018 which would gut the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau in favor of payday lenders, by far one of the most nefarious and destructive industries on the planet. Payday lenders prey on the most vulnerable people in our society and can charge interest rates sometimes as high as 300% on payday loans. As has become the case with Democrats around the country, Debbie Wasserman Schultz has demonstrated that her concerns lie with big business, not her constituents or the voters of this country.
In addition, Debbie Wasserman Schultz has wielded her considerable power as chair of the DNC to deny her primary challenger, Tim Canova, a fair shot in his bid to unseat her. She directed the DNC to disallow Canova access to the all-important Voter Action Network (VAN) used by virtually every Democratic campaign for phone banking, canvassing, and fundraising, among other things. Furthermore, DWS refuses to debate Tim Canova, mirroring her earlier attempts to severely limit the number of Democratic debates between Sanders and Clinton to give as little exposure to Sanders as possible. Like the Sanders campaign, Tim Canova has refused to take money from special interests and is currently out-fundraising Wasserman Schultz with donations from small, working class donors. It's quite clear that the Democratic Party is becoming increasingly nervous about the fact that candidates such as Bernie Sanders and Tim Canova are funding their campaigns via small donors and not the megadonors upon which the Democratic Party has become so dependent post-Citizens United.
The Democratic Party talks all day and night about increasing voter turnout and participation, but for the first time in memory, the Democratic Party has not engaged in widespread, dedicated, and intense new voter registration efforts this election cycle. This is clearly because new voters overwhelmingly favor Sanders and candidates like Tim Canova. As the DNC has become more and more dependent on megadonors, it is becoming increasingly obvious that the Democratic Party no longer represents the American people; rather, the Democratic Party has become a mouthpiece of the oligarchy, unconcerned by the struggles of everyday Americans fighting just to get by.
The DNC and Democrats in general have become corrupt, arrogant, and obsolete. If the Democratic Party wants to do well in the general election this year, it will require a dramatic restructuring of the DNC, starting with the removal of Debbie Wasserman Schultz from her position as chair of the DNC.
If you haven't already, please sign and share our petition to send a clear, resounding message to the DNC; we, the people of the Democratic Party demand that the party be returned to the people and demand the immediate resignation of Debbie Wasserman Schultz as chair of the DNC.
