Apologise to members of the autistic community for your recent podcast episode

The issue

Members of the autistic community call for an on air apology, as well as a statement on the Death, Sex & Money Facebook page, for harm caused to us by this week’s episode of the podcast, ‘Autism isn’t what I signed up for’. For a transcript of this episode, visit Death, Sex & Money

The views expressed in this episode are disrespectful of the rights of disabled people and promote ideas that contribute towards our oppression.

We are tired of the amplification of the voices of non-autistic parents complaining about the burdens we are on their lives. Promoting the view that it would have been better if we were not born is discriminatory and hurtful.

On your website you state that ‘listeners play a key role in how we shape the show’. Your autistic listeners and members of the broader autistic and disabled community ask that you apologise for the offensive nature of this episode and the pain that it has caused us.

We invite you to interview autistic people for a less ableist view. Please contact Erin Human on erinhuman@gmail.com
