Death Penalty for Rapists in India

The Issue

The plight of women in India reads like the narrative of a dystopian country. 48% of our population, approximately 69 crore WOMEN, is living in constant fear. Every second day, we hear chilling news of women, children, and even infants, being sexually assaulted, gang-raped, and murdered.

One of the most recent cases involves a resident doctor working in the largest hospital of Kolkata who was murdered while sleeping AFTER A 36-hour SHIFT IN HER OWN HOSPITAL. This incident is not an anomaly, rather an agonizing reminder of the everyday reality for Indian women.

India has the dubious distinction of being the world’s most dangerous country for women due to high risk of sexual violence according to a poll by the Thompson Reuters Foundation. In 2018, India's National Crime Record Bureau reported 33,356 cases of rape. The real number is likely higher, due to the social stigma associated with reporting sexual assault in India.

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we make this plea: We demand the Government of India to implement the death penalty as a non-negotiable punishment for convicted rapists. We believe that such a law would serve as a strong deterrent and potentially prevent such vile acts.

50% of our population should not have to live in fear. It is time for our laws to reflect the severity of these crimes, and the gravity of the harm they inflict on our family members, friends, and society at large.

Sign this petition. Stand up for the safety and dignity of every woman, child, and all vulnerable persons in India. Their lives deserve more than fear. Their lives deserve justice.

Another incident 17th Aug 2024: Another woman was gang-raped in Ludhiana AT HER HOME WHERE SHE WAS WITH HER TODDLER, BY A RETARD WHO'S DAUGHTER RAN AWAY WITH HER BROTHER. SHE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH IT.
