Build a public toilet at Itun Agan community to end open defecation

The Issue

Itun Agan community in Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos is a riverine community of over 10,000 residents. Separated from the Apapa Port by the Lagos Lagoon, this 100-year community grapples with open defecation and its negative effects due to the absence of public toilets.

Residents, whether old, pregnant or ill, have to climb wooden boats to be able to defecate openly inside the lagoon.

Not only does openly defecating inside the lagoon in the full glare of everyone rob the doer of personal dignity and expose them to the dangers of tripping and falling while climbing the boats, it also assaults the innocent bystanders' sense of sight, generates offensive odour in the community, and poses a grave danger to the aquatic animals consuming human faeces day in, day out.

I am calling on the Executive Chairman of Amuwo Odofin LGAo, Mr Valentine Buraimoh to build a public toilet in this community, especially since World Toilet Day will be marked this November 19.

Please join me in this campaign by signing this petition so that the appropriate action can be taken.
