James Wan and WB have announced that Aquaman 2 is delayed – again, this time for a whopping nine months, citing that the film needs more time in post-production.

This has sparked a firestorm of speculation. Some say that WB doesn’t want to try to compete with Avatar 2, which was due to come out at the same time. And that would be a fair assumption. Avatar is a HUGE franchise, and isn’t plagued with the troubles surrounding Aquaman – largely thanks to Amber Heard and her legal woes.

Others (me among them) hope that WB is taking this time to replace Amber Heard in Aquaman 2. Lots of fans hope that Emelia Clarke will replace Heard in the movie, mostly because of the chemistry she and Jason Momoa had in Game of Thrones. 

I don’t know if they’d be able to get Emilia Clarke for it due to other contractual obligations, but it is entirely possible to replace Heard, either by using CGI or filming with another actress. They have plenty of time to do it now.

The question is: Will replacing Heard be enough to save the film? A LOT of fans are still upset with the way WB fired Johnny Depp from the Fantastic Beasts franchise and vow not to see AM2 in protest.

We’ll have to wait and see if WB has finally decided to replace Heard in AM2, or if this is just a stall to avoid competing with other, stronger movie franchises. Me, I hope for the former. If they replace Heard, I might just watch it to see the glorious Jason Momoa. Maybe. Like I said, we’ll have to wait and see.
