According to Forbes, Aquaman 2 will likely have a release date of December 16, 2022, four years after the first Aquaman splashed onto the big screen. Why the wait? Simply put: the competition. From the looks of it, December 2022 is the first Christmas season between now and then that won't have a big-ticket studio release. Specifically: Avatar.
Besides that, James Wan is a busy guy, slated to work first on his "Trench" horror flick - which Jason Momoa and Amber Heard are both reportedly attached to.
As horrific as the thought of Amber Heard alongside Jason Momoa in yet another film, the way for Aquaman 2 is good news. It gives plenty of time for Johnny Depp's defamation suit to hit the courts. When, not if, it's proven in a court of law that Amber Heard violently abused her ex husband - same as she did her ex wife - it should be pretty clear to those in charge of the DCU why she should be left out of it.
Fingers crossed!
