Temp worker industry in Georgia needs tougher regulations and laws that will protect temp workers.
The Issue
Georiga temp workers are being abused, disrespected, and exploited. Temporary workers face high rates of wage violations and on-the-job injuries, but rarely have recourse against the brand-name companies whose products they move, pack or assemble. Several temps work for two, three years or more and are never hired full-time by these companies.
Temp agencies execute all types of dirty tricks and unfair labor tactics to keep workers from getting their rightful unemployment benefits. I too have been a victim of these dishonest tactics and I can provide proof of the unfair treatment that I received from a temp agency that I had been working for.Temporary Agencies often do not provide proper training, do not provide benefits, do not provide the usual workplace protections from unfair firing by their clients, and routinely refuse to pay state holidays. All they care about is receiving the profitable compensation from their clients and not the well-being of their employees.
You will find temp workers doing the same work side by side with permanent employees except the permanent worker is making $12 - $20 dollars an hour and temp worker is making $7.25 - $10 dollars an hour. The difference going to the Temp Agency. Employers like this rent-a-worker as it absolves them of any need to follow labour laws or provide training or benefits. Most temp workers end up with no real skill to shop to permanent employers and are left with an ‘unstable’ work record. As well as living in poverty from the low wages and unpaid holidays.
Temps have no rights, no security, no benefits, but some factories’ workforces are up to 80 percent temp workers. As a temp the reality of the situation is you have no real rights. No one looks out for your future. There are no benefits. There is no job security or loyalty from company to worker or vice-versa.
We (the temp workers) are being pimped out to big businesses, factories, and the temp services are skimming the cream off of the top. Something has to be done!! Please sign my petition so that we can make a difference.
