"Essential Workers" need "Essential Pay" Temporary Hazard Pay Henry Street TSH workers

The Issue

HAZARD PAY OR WE STAY HOME! Temporary raise for all TSH workers or we stay home !

As individuals who work in shelter during the  peak spread of COVID-19 " ESSENTIAL WORKERS" are at heightened risk for getting COVID-19 virus. The CDC has recommended avoiding large crowds and social distancing practices for all. Although WE are great full for being able to use their sick time during this time and alternating days (3 days work from home 2 days in office). Shelter workers are experiencing a struggle & are currently putting their families at a higher risk of infection by leaving our home to travel on bus, subway & walking to work. ( Think of the individuals who work for Henry street and have elderly family members at home or who have sick family members at home this is a very serious virus we are dealing with , Although we enjoy helping our women , mental ill , elderly & families the question remains WHAT ABOUT US !!!!!!!!!?

This petition is to advocate for temporary increased wages in the form of hazard pay to compensate us financially for putting ourselves and our families at a higher risk of infection. Many other employers and schools have closed or switched to telecommuting which is not a full option for us.

If we are "essential workers" can we focus on making sure our families are safe and forget about mandates from the city and focus on the employees who are on the front line and working with residents each and every day. The letter we got to show that we are essential workers was a wakeup call.

This pandemic has shown us that all this time Henry street could of helped an employee who was having child care issues or helped an employee who would of benefited from working from home! It shouldn't take a pandemic for Henry street to realize that we are " Essential workers"

Hazard pay could be beneficial for many reasons not only would it help employees with a spouse or adult child who was laid off but it would also help an employee with a large family who might have to now find an " essential worker" to help watch their elderly parent or family member because he/she has to come in to work to risk their health for a company that decided to make it known that we are "essential workers & MUST come in to work! We are risking our health and safety in order to help society operate in these distressing times.

HAZARD PAY OR WE STAY HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please join our mission to demand temporary hazard pay for Transitional & supportive housing workers during this pandemic.

Dear Petitioners, The leadership recipients of this communication thank you for reaching out to us. We are moving at lightning speed in this crisis, and are guided by critical voices - - from the community we serve and from our valued employees, all in the service of public health and safety. Your voice is not only welcome, we depend on it to help steer us in the right direction. The financial wellbeing and health of our employees are always of extreme importance to us, and in fact our conversations with staff across the Settlement has had a defining impact in our recent decisions to provide childcare coverage and initiate more flexibility in schedules. We are open to more change and additional ways to be supportive. We would like to have a discussion to learn more about your issues and needs, give you transparency in how decisions are made and to share the investments that have been made so far. For those petitioners who are employees of Henry Street, this is an open invitation to talk.
