Hello to all 199,007 of you,
Look, we’re now a movement of nearly 200,000 people!!!
As you can imagine, we are pretty excited to be reaching the 200,000 mark - and we’ve a few things up our sleeves to celebrate that we'd love you to be a part of. We’d like to use this opportunity to share all our reasons for signing and to inspire others to get on board…
* Whether you're an individual, part of a team, group, charity or business. All you have to do is finish off this sentence 'I signed because....' in whatever format you like. This could be in a tweet (#isignedbecause) a photo (with you holding up a #isignedbecause sign), a blog, a newspaper article, a video, a song, get as creative as you’d like (mime? frosted icing?).... Just tweet/Facebook/email (nomorepage3@gmail.com)
Watch our first #isignedbecause videos here! With Stella Creasy MP https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLJBLAW_9yU and Caroline Lucas MP https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OeZN__QogU0
* We are super excited to let you know that our regional groups have been springing up all over the country. We had 10 new groups start up in one week alone! New groups in Birmingham, Bristol, Brighton, Newcastle, London and Cardiff to name but a few. We'd like to thank all the incredible individuals who are blowing so much energy into these groups and the campaign. http://nomorepage3.org/regional-nmp3-groups/
You know we say we're doing this? Well, YOU are doing this!
And one of these things you are doing is challenging businesses about their association with The Sun. A lot!!
* An awesome supporter has set up a petition asking Costa to stop supplying The Sun in cafes. It currently has over 27,000 signatures!!!! Please do sign and share. http://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/costa-coffee-press-office-please-stop-supplying-copies-of-the-sun-in-your-restaurants
*Stephanie Davies-Arai challenged Justin king (Sainsbury's CEO) at their AGM about the placement of unsuitable tabloids like The Sun in their stores. Mr King's response, like all other supermarkets, was the disingenuous "we don't comment on editorial matters". http://agm.shareaction.org/debating-access-soft-porn-sainsburys-ceo
* Fuelled by the lack of responsibility the supermarkets are taking for the placement of tabloids in stores, we've teamed up with Child Eyes campaign to TAKE ACTION!!! We really need you to help us by being relentless in complaining in the supermarkets when you shop and emailing them at the end of the month to persuade them to put #pornpapers (The Sun, Star and Sport) on the top shelf.
Click here for more info on exactly what you can do to help http://nomorepage3.org/news/supermarkets-top-shelf-porn-papers/
We really feel there is a chance of convincing them but it relies on all of you!!
*And on the topic of lobbying… We successfully lobbied EE who have been selling mobile phones for children to use that had an option to click on ‘Page 3 girls’ under the heading 'fun and games'. http://www.theguardian.com/business/2014/jun/17/ee-promises-urgent-review-into-page-3-phone-option?CMP=twt_fd
We’ll be back very soon but we’d just like to leave you with the BIGGEST THANK YOU to you all for being part of this campaign - although we’ve been told that as we have so much support now we should officially call ourselves a movement…
…Thank you so much for being part of this movement.
Lucy, Lisa, Sarah, Sarah, Stephanie, Angela, Pippa, Jo, Jo, Yas, Anne-Louise, Brenna, Ceris, Asa, Sian and Kathryn
