At 7pm tomorrow, Monday 4 July, there will be verbal fireworks in the House of Lords when it debates the TPD’s e-cigarette regulations. Speeches have been written and the government is braced for a blistering critique from Conservative as well as Labour peers. Although the debate can no longer block the TPD, it is intended to force further concessions on the implementation of rules which the government accepts are flawed. What can you do? 1. Watch it live online or… 2. Come to Westminster to watch it from the public gallery. You should arrive by 6.30pm to get through security. The entrance is half way along Parliament at Cromwell Green. (The rules are no placards, no sharp objects - and no padlocks!) If you have a bit more time you could ask to meet your MP earlier in the “Central Lobby” at Parliament. If you are meeting friends, there is a café inside Parliament at Westminster Hall which is open until 5.30pm. Useful Links: 1. Parliament TV: http://www.parliamentlive.tv/Lords 2. Phone or email the MP’s office to request a meeting with them or a staff member and say that if they can’t make it that you would like to meet them at their next constituency surgery. 2. When you meet them explain what vaping means to you and how you are concerned about regulations. Tell them that there are over 4,000 vapers in every constituency. Then request them to i) ask Parliamentary Questions about e-cigarettes ii) write a letter to the minister expressing concern iii) ask the House of Commons to hold a debate on e-cigarettes
