To Her Majesty the Queen and to The People and Government of the United Kingdom,

We are Syrian people who are stuck here in Calais. Our number is between 70 and 80 people. We ask to claim asylum in the UK in a legal way and for the opportunity to reach the UK without having to use dangerous or illegal methods. As people from SYRIA we have suffered from war and forced exile. We ask for our right to choose the country in which we can live in safety.

There are many reasons why we choose the UK. Some of these are:

Most of us have extended family in UK, for example cousins.

The majority of us are able to speak English.

The UK signed an agreement with the UN to receive refugees from SYRIA. We are asking the UK to respect this commitment.

We should not be forced to enter the UK clandestinely to seek protection. As it is we face exploitation at the hands of agents or else we have to take extremely dangerous measures to reach the UK.

We want to end our suffering here in Calais. Although we are very thankful to everyone in Calais who has helped us, we need more than blankets and tents. We just need the freedom to go to the UK legally to claim asylum.
