Cameron conflates issues yet again, as he avoids making the necessary commitment to investment in our child protection framework via the introduction of mandatory reporting law. He's right when he says no one was held accountable for not helping Daniel, who suffered months of visible physical abuse at the hands of his mother and stepfather before his death. However, it's not clear how the introduction of a new 'frontline' scheme to support the career paths of talented graduates in social services would have helped - although staff at his school internally documented their concerns with regard to Daniel's many injuries, no external report was made and so there was nothing on which for social services to act. Child protection is a national priority and mandatory reporting is a non-negotiable cornerstone to a safer future for vulnerable children. Please continue to sign and share this petition in Daniel's name - our pressure will keep this issue on the national agenda and in media focus.
