Hello everyone,
Thank you to everyone who signed the letter. We had 127 signatures in total, which is a powerful message of support. I appreciate everyone's efforts to spread the word and I think Ron will appreciate the support we have offered.
The letter has been accepted for publication and will be published in The D and online tomorrow (Tuesday, February 27). The editors made a few minor tweaks to the body of the text. The biggest thing is that the opinion editor at the The Dartmouth told me they do not publish letters signed by groups. Instead, what they typically do is run a version of that letter attributed to one author. They asked if I'd be comfortable putting my name on it and I agreed, with the condition that we make it clear this is a collective sentiment on the behalf of a broad group of alums. So we've inserted an extra line toward the end of the letter noting that there is an online version of the letter that has been signed by 127 alums/family.
Apologies for the last-minute nature of this. I initially reached out to The Dartmouth last Tuesday (2/20) but didn't hear from the opinion editor in charge of letters of the editor until today (Monday 2/26) and the group signature issue was not brought to my attention until this evening.
