The Issue

GREENWICH COUNCIL TO SELL PRECIOUS PUBLIC LAND TO PRIVATE DEVELOPERS WITH 17,000 ON WAITING LIST

The council has agreed in principle to sell public land on three sites in Greenwich subject to consultation, they have rejected all alternatives:-

    - Kidbrooke Park Close 3-storey development on garages/parking area

    - Charlton, The Heights  4-storey development of 45 one-bedroom units

    - Greenwich, Quince Rd 6-storey development on garages/parking area

Reasons we oppose the development

o Sale of our land in return for NO SOCIAL HOUSING which is desperately needed by families & future generations as we have approx. 17,000 on council waiting & 1000 families in temporary accommodation

o Reduced parking/loss of garages with parking already a huge issue

o New buildings close to existing homes affects privacy & restricts sunlight

o Land offered to only one developer, NO BIDDING PROCESS & they will make a 15% PROFIT on land the council could develop themselves

o To be sold at so called "affordable" prices for first time buyers at 20% discount, but what will stop them being sold at full price in the future?

o 20% cheaper, but 20% smaller! Company called Pocket Living will build pocket-sized homes. 38m², only space for a wetroom, no bathroom

o No Ballot of Residents – Council have rejected a tenant ballot on the proposal, which is against both Labour Party’s & Mayor’s position
