Did you know it took a state making one change that eventually put seat belts in every vehicle? Or that the federal requirement requiring seat belts is credited with saving over 500,000 lives?

After Families for Safe Streets members in CA pushed to secure an intelligent speed assistance bill in their state, California is on the precipice of making the change we need: a first-in-the-nation law that would require vehicles to alert drivers when going 10+ MPH over the limit.  The State Assembly and State Senate just passed SB 961, and it's now on Governor Newsom's desk. This is HUGE!

[sign the petition!]

SB 961 would require all cars and trucks manufactured or sold in California except emergency vehicles and motorcycles to give an audio and visual alert to drivers when they’re going more than 10 MPH above the speed limit, starting in 2030. This would use existing advanced driver assistance technology, like when your car alerts you there is a vehicle in your blind spot. It's a common-sense use of technology that has the potential to change driver behavior, change federal requirements, and save lives

Tell Governor Newsom to sign SB 961 today!
