Supervisor O'Leary - Pay Back the Washington Twp. Taxpayers for Sex Harassment Legal Fees

Supervisor O'Leary - Pay Back the Washington Twp. Taxpayers for Sex Harassment Legal Fees
The Issue
On March 1, 2015, an administrative employee of Washington Township, MI claimed she experienced a “hostile work environment" in the form of sexual harassment. Since this date, Supervisor Dan O'Leary has paid an estimated $30,000 of our taxpayer dollars to law firm Seibert & Dioski, PLLC.
Regardless of what took place, one thing is clear: The citizens of Washington Township do not believe their tax money should have been used for Dan O'Leary's "personal matter" as he referred to it in the Macomb Daily on 05/04/17. Despite multiple FOIA's that were filed with the township, the taxpayers remain in the dark about any of it. O'Leary remains in office & largely unaffected, in stark contrast with other recent figures in the media we've seen:
Matt Lauer - Fired from NBC
John Conyers - House ethics investigation was launched, he gave up spot as top ranking democrat on house judiciary committee, said he would not seek re-election
Al Franken - Ethics investigation launched, resigned from his position of Senator, cancelled book tour, cut from CBS special
The list goes on, but you get the picture. Zero has been done in Washington Township about this matter and it is not fair to the citizens who have to foot the bill. Although legislation is currently being proposed to ban taxpayer funds from being used for politicians' sexual harassment settlements, it is not coming quick enough.
$30,000 might not sound like a lot of money, but it's the principle of the matter. It could have gone to something really cool for the community, like a dog park or a playground.
Please sign this petition if you think the Washington Township taxpayers should be refunded for Dan O'Leary's "personal matter."
It is dishonest to create special privileges for politicians to get away with predatory behavior and intolerable to set up a taxpayer-funded slush fund to settle complaints with no public disclosure or accountability.
We demand accountability and transparency in Washington Township on the part of those elected to serve.
