Over the past 15 years the Cody Siem Memorial Skatepark has served skateboard, bicycle and scooter riders of Grand Rapids faithfully. It has been a safe haven for young and old riders to practice their skills while making life long friendships and memories. We are very very thankful to have this park and to the people who helped make it reality. As thankful as we are the riders and community has outgrown the current skatepark size. There isn't enough space for all the skaters bikers and scooter riders to safely ride in the park when it's busy. One of the most important steps in securing a new park is the support of the community. We are asking you to sign and share this petition to spread the word to reach our goal of expanding and updating our skatepark. Looking to the Bemidji Skate Plaza as an example of what support, grants and hard work can do they were able to put in a one of a kind all concrete park and we would like to see a similar type of park here. With the help of the Bemidji community, The Tony Hawk Foundation, The Skatepark Project and dedicated, passionate individuals they brought it to life in 2010 and so can we. To us it's not just a park. It is so much more than that. It's our friend's park named after Cody Siem who passed away in 1997 before he could see the park himself that he helped lay the foundations of. We have an amazing opportunity to make a long lasting park for generations to come. It's not for us. It's for our kids and their kids. The future of Grand Rapids will be brighter for its youth. To see a park like we envision come to life would be doing an honor to Cody. All of this with 100% support and backing from Cody's Mom Cathy and Cody's friends. Already skaters have been offering up any help to see this new park happen with their own hard work. They are excited at the thought of making it come true. My son and daughter are filled with hopes and dreams of a new park. I thank each and everyone who takes the time out to read this and signs the petition help us reach our goal. A donation page will be available soon for anyone who wants to donate. Fundraising events will be announced for next summer to help with costs and raise support.
Thank you for your support!
