On January 10th I announced via the Facebook Campaign page that I'd be stepping down from operating the campaign and this petition.
Following on from that announcement, it comes as no surprise that no-one has yet come forward to show interest in continuing the campaign platforms after I announced I would no longer be continuing after March 24th, the centenary of Tom Crean's retirement from the Navy
I’m sad that it was, in the end, the bitterness of a small group of individuals that brought my tenure to an end and not the joy of reaching the goal.
It’s a been a big commitment that was born out of a passion to see Tom Crean get the recognition he deserves and I’ve put my heart and soul into it for 10 years. I hope it succeeds and I believe it still will.
Before I write up my last post on the Facebook Page on 24th March, I’m exercising my right to reply to those who found it acceptable to demonise me in a public post. I shouldn’t have to but anyone of us can find themselves in this position and I’m not the type to scurry off into a corner and hope it all goes away.
I won’t post that story here - this a platform dedicated to the memory of Tom Crean and it won’t be tarnished by the whole sorry tale.
I have though, written an account of why it came to this in a blog I set up. The Blogger link that accompanies this update will take you to the post.
Anyone wishing to make a comment there can do so but although everyone is free to share their opinions after reading, I will moderate any comments made.
Not moderating a public post is how it’s come to this for me.
As I stated when I announced that I would no longer work on the campaign, the petition here will remain open for signatures, the campaign page will stay online and if you like it, give it the thumbs up, it has many years of stories you can scroll down to and growing numbers mean everything in reaching the goal.
There are a couple of February posts that are important in the diary of Tom Crean’s life and they will be added on the appropriate dates but after my last post on March 24th I will be posting only on the facebook page dedicated to my book, Crean The Extraordinary Life of an Irish Hero, and to the book website tomcreanbook.com.
A huge thank you to everyone who's signed the petition and it will remain open for others to do the same. Growing numbers count for everything in reaching this goal so please keep sharing it.
Best wishes
Tim Foley
