Save the Delikipos Forest from becoming a quarry

The Issue

We are a group of nature-loving individuals who want to prevent the Cyprus authorities from criminally destroying the beautiful forest of Aetomutti in Delikipos (an officially protected forest, part of the Natura 2000 Network area). There have been systematic plans over the years to change its zone from ‘forest protected’ to ‘quarry zone’, an event which would disastrously lead to the creation of a heavy industrial zone which will include new quarries and asphalt companies.

This would unquestionably be a criminal act on behalf of the Cyprus government against the environment with devastating and irremediable consequences on people’s health and quality of life, on the general ecosystem of the island of Cyprus, but also in regards to the wonderful, idyllic landscape of the area, and the numerous opportunities it presents for genuine and beneficial growth. It is corrupt to sacrifice all these for the financial profit of the few.

As the Cyprus Aggregates Association publicly declared in an open meeting, on 30 January 2020, Cyprus will not be in need of a new quarry for many decades. The Cyprus Geological Survey Department and the Commissioner for the Environment of the Republic of Cyprus, however, attempt to mislead public opinion by sending out vague messages about their agendas.

Please support our cause by empowering our voice.  Follow us on Facebook at DelikiposForestSOS as well as on Instagram and Twitter and sign this petition.

Help us save one of Cyprus’s most unspoiled forests while securing the quality of life of the people who live on this island. Your support is more imperative than ever!
